Disclosing commission and sponsored posts

Followers should know when you earn from a recommendation. GearCred labels its own pages. Your social posts need their own disclosure.

Commission links are disclosed on every GearCred page that has them. If a brand paid you or gave you the gear for a post, turn on Paid or sponsored post on the Review step. The post then shows a Sponsored label.

On your social posts

The FTC expects the disclosure to be clear, close to the recommendation and hard to miss. In practice:

  • Captions: put "#ad" or "I earn from links in my bio" at the start, not buried in a pile of hashtags at the end.
  • Videos: say it out loud and show it on screen.
  • Stories: put it on each frame that has a link, long enough to read.
  • Live video: say it again every so often for people who join late.
  • Gifted gear counts too. "Gifted" or "#ad" works.

A platform's paid partnership label helps, but the FTC says not to count on it alone.
