When adrenaline spikes during a duty shift or a dark-alley encounter, your fine motor skills evaporate. Complex knife tactics fail. What remains is the most basic human reflex: the closed-fist punch. If you have to fight off an attacker trying to grab your sidearm, you need a backup blade that deploys instantly and works without complex training. The inspiration for the TOPS Knives I Stick Mini came directly from a conversation designer Leo Espinoza had at the 2025 NRA Annual Meetings. A female law enforcement officer explained her struggle to find a reliable self-defense knife due to an old hand injury that compromised her grip strength.
