From Trident Fly Fishing
The Sage Thermo Fly Reel is named for the one thing that decides whether a big game reel survives its first serious fish: heat. A drag does not stop a running fish so much as convert the energy of that run into heat and Sage says so plainly describing the SCS drag as taking the kinetic energy of a running fish and dissipating it as thermal energy. Everything that goes wrong with a drag under a tarpon a giant trevally or a blue marlin is downstream of that heat which is where fade skipping and permanent wear come from.
