The Rig That Keeps Your Bait Where Halibut Live Halibut are ambush predators that hug the bottom - and getting your bait to stay in that strike zone while drifting is the whole game. The Lead Masters Halibut Bounce Ball Rig was a closely guarded secret of commercial fishermen for years and for good reason: it works. The bounce ball design keeps your bait riding just above the bottom as you drift triggering reaction strikes from halibut that would ignore a bait dragging through the mud or riding too high in the water column.
