The brown tin affords a slight hydrogen twang from the outside which is a normal finding in glass vials produced by traditional manufacturing processes. The color of the vials and the immediate environment strongly influences the color of the resulting precipitate. Colored glass prevents the precipitate from changing from one color to another. It is estimated that most glass vials in use today were made between the mid-twentieth century. The color of these vials is a light brown which blends in well with most laboratory or scientific equipment. Most are autoclaved which makes them easy to clean.
