Few sailing yachts have a pedigree quite like S/Y AELLO. Built in 1921 by renowned German naval architect Max Oertz for Greek merchant and yachtsman Antonios Benakis, AELLO was a legendary Greek sailing yacht with deep ties to the country’s sailing tradition. Benakis was the founder of the Yacht Club of Greece, whose newsletter still bears AELLO’s name today. After years sailing the Mediterranean, AELLO was purchased by a Baron and Admiral of the British Empire, who embarked on an ambitious voyage around the world. Following World War II, the yacht took on a very different life as a houseboat, spending years in a mud berth before her restoration began in 1985.
