The Hardy Averon Fly Reel is the core of Hardy&';s performance reel range a large arbor disc drag reel built to keep weight off the butt of a modern rod. The 3000 comes in at 3.9 ounces and the 5000 at 4.3 light enough to balance a 4 or 5 weight without you noticing the reel by mid afternoon and the range runs up to a 6.8 ounce 9000 rated for 8 through 10 weight lines. Hardy lists the Averon in its freshwater reel range rather than its saltwater range and the spread of sizes reflects that: technical dry fly and small stream work at one end streamer and light salmon duty at the other.
